Dance Party in Heaven

Dance Party in Heaven

My first three posts have been somewhat serious, so I wanted to change gears a little today because God gave me a GREAT glimpse this morning. As some of my very best friends know, I am a dancing fool. I used to dance more in my younger years with the lack of care and concern that comes with youth. Now I have children who are generally mortified when I dance, so I reserve my craziest dance moves for when I am home alone cleaning or making dinner and the pets and the Lord are my only witnesses. Anyway, God placed the joy of music and dancing within us; he created us to dance as a way to worship and express our joy. The bible gives us many examples of such dancing.

2 Samuel 6:14 “And David danced before the Lord with all his might”

Jeremiah 31:13-14 “The young women will dance for joy, and the men- old and young- will join in the celebration. I will turn their mourning into joy. I will comfort them and exchange their sorrow for rejoicing. “

Psalm 30:11 “You have turned my mourning into joyful dancing”

We will spend eternity worshiping the Lord, but if you think the only way to do that is by singing countless hymns in somber tones, I think you have underestimated the character of our Creator. He is the one who invented joy and smiling, and singing and dancing and silliness. That is why when you do these things, they feel great. Yes, there is dancing that is dishonoring but that is not what I am referring to here. Doing something God created us to do is one way to worship and honor Him.

Getting to the point, this morning, in my glimpse, I pictured myself and others sitting around talking with people from all of history and from all over the world about their cultures and how they celebrated and had fun. Someone that looked a lot like Moses asked, “So how did YOU have fun?” At which point I jumped up to show them and a dance party of epic proportions ensued. Everyone got in on it and it was AWESOME! Think something along the lines of the ending credits for Evan Almighty: (please don’t judge, I know this isn’t a totally biblical film, but you get the spirit of my message)

All right, are you picturing it yet? In order to see it, you have to really live it, give it a trial run. Picture being in heaven with all the cares of the world behind you- all of your fears, your tears, your worries and stress permanently gone and all you have to do is live on the beautiful, perfect new Earth and worship the Lord who paid the ultimate price for you so that you would be able to spend eternity with Him in personal and intimate relationship. That kind of joy is incomprehensible. But we will try.

So I dare you. Here’s part of my “Dance Party in Heaven” playlist. Download some of the songs (or find some of your own) and dance like nobody is watching but God (and maybe your cat) and feel the joy.

If you need something to get you started, here’s one of my favorites. Have fun! 😁
