Prelude to Heaven

Prelude to Heaven

I think if God were to use a hashtag for humanity it would be #SMH (shaking my head). His head must be on a swivel just watching our nonsense. You would think that after so many years of practice, we would have gotten better, kinder, smarter. But the more time passes, it seems we just get worse and worse and we generally DO NOT learn from our mistakes. We don’t have to worry about some giant asteroid hitting our planet and killing us all, we are doing just fine destroying ourselves without any help. It is scary to think what would happen to us if God didn’t intervene and take his Church off the planet while leaving everyone else to their own devices. I don’t know how much we will be aware of while we are spending the seven years of the tribulation with Jesus in heaven, but I imagine it would be like watching a train wreck in slow motion.

We all need to thank the Lord every day not only for delivering us from what is to come, but for the amazing opportunity to return and experience his Kingdom on earth as it is in heaven. Once the tribulation is over and Jesus has returned with his Bride in tow to defeat Satan and his minions as well as the rest of the world that would come against him, then he will finally become the earthly King we have been waiting for. He will establish his reign in the city of Jerusalem where he will rule with perfect justice and completely change the world. This will begin the Millennium which is a fascinating time.

John Lennon, bless his heart, could never have imagined what true peace on earth would actually look like. A strong city/country/world is only as good as its leader and we will have the best one ever. Jesus will rule with perfect justice and perfect wisdom and will not waste any time in righting any wrongs. Psalm 72 and Isaiah 35 foretell of a kingdom where the poor and oppressed are rescued and blessed beyond measure, where deserts and wastelands will become lush and green and burst with abundant blooms, like the Garden of Eden where crops will grow faster than we can harvest them under perfect conditions and without disease or pests. There will be prosperity throughout the world as no funds will be needed for war or defense.

To be honest, though there are many verses in the Old and New Testament about the Millennium, I never really had an idea of what it might entail or what we as the Church would actually be doing during this time. Then, because he is good like that, God gave me a glimpse just as my eyes opened this morning and things made a lot more sense. Here’s what I saw:

This planet is going to be an absolute mess after the seven years of tribulation with the judgments and plagues sent to the earth, the carnage of mass murder at the hands of the Antichrist along with the multitude of dead and destruction from the Battle of Armageddon. The bible tell us in Ezekiel 39:9-16 that the weapons used in the battle will be picked up and burned for fuel and that there will be so many it will be enough to last for 7 years without needing anything else as a fuel source. It will take 7 months to bury the bodies and cleanse the land- and this is just in Israel. What God showed me is that the cleanup effort across the globe may take many years and possibly decades to remove debris and anything of a sinful nature that was left over and then to rebuild. This will take a very coordinated effort from a huge amount of people who will be assigned various duties. When the bible tells us we will be put to work and be given positions of authority based on our faithfulness and work for the Lord in this life, I think this is part of that plan. There will be cities and communities to rebuild, homes will be needed, and crops will have to be planted. Workers and planners/designers, and project managers will be needed. Some of us will also have roles in government as co-rulers and judges with Christ.

None of us really knows exactly how it will all work out or how Jesus will supernaturally assist us, but the amazing thing is that we will all work together peacefully with joy and contentment. Even the animals will be at peace as “the wolf and the lamb will live together; the leopard will lie down with the baby goat. The calf and the yearling will be safe with the lion, and a little child will lead them all. The cow will graze near the bear. The cub and the calf will lie down together. The lion will eat hay like a cow. The baby will play safely near the hole of a cobra.” (Isaiah 11:6-8) Now I still don’t like the part about the cobra, but can you imagine? It will be like living in one giant free range petting zoo! This is my dream come true. I WILL be petting all the animals. A lot.

The bible all tells us there will be no more disabilities as “when he comes, he will open the eyes of the blind and unplug the ears of the deaf. The lame will leap like a deer, and those who cannot speak will sing for joy!” (Isaiah 3:5-6). There are so many of my precious patients I will be looking for that suffer with these disabilities and I want to jump up and down with them as they celebrate. God has been giving me that glimpse for years and I absolutely can’t wait!

This planet and its people will finally get the chance to exist in the way of our original design, at least for 1000 years. There will still be sin as children will be born with free will. Ultimately some will make the decision to turn away from God, even in these ideal conditions which is why there will be one final confrontation with Satan as he is unchained but then swiftly defeated once and for all along with anyone who makes the choice not to follow the Lord. It then appears that we may take up residence in the glorious city of New Jerusalem as it hovers over the earth while Jesus begins the ultimate extreme makeover of heaven and earth where we will then spend eternity. Again, none of us really knows exactly how this will all work, but we know it will be an incredible experience that truly is beyond our wildest imagination. Are you ready??
