Class of 2020?

Class of 2020?

My high school class of 1992 was the last class in our old high school before the transition was made to the shiny new high school across town. On one hand, we were bummed that we would never get to walk the halls of a modern, clean school but on the other hand, we felt special because our campus had generations of tradition and we would go down in Falcon history as the last class in the original high school. It felt like a privilege. More and more, I am starting to feel like history is repeating itself. Every single person living on this planet today is part of the last graduating class of Earth as we know it. Fortunately for some of us, though, we will still get the shiny new version as well.

In the bible, Queen Ester was told by Mordecai that she was “born for such a time as this.” Ester was placed in a position in which she was required to risk her own life in order to try to save her people. God had ordained that Ester be in that unique position and she had a choice to walk in her calling or to stay silent. Many generations before us have wondered if they would be present when Jesus called His beloved home but based on the convergence of so many prophetic signs, it appears that we will very well be that generation. The question is whether or not we will embrace our situation and see it as the privilege that it is.

Living during this time is definitely a challenge to say the least and 2020 has been a year like no other. I’m starting to think though that it is just the opening act of a show that may go on for some time- but hopefully we will get to duck out early and watch what unfolds from a safer place. The truth is Jesus could come at any time but none of us knows exactly when. Think about just some of what we’ve experienced in the past year:

  • first and most obvious- a deadly pandemic that caused an entire globe to come to a standstill and is still holding that thing formerly known as life hostage
  • “coin shortage” forcing us to turn more and more to a cashless society while being denied entry to stores unless wearing a mask, temperatures checked on our foreheads and hands
  • lawlessness running rampant as people have taken to the streets and burned downed cities all in the name of social justice (in our own country)
  • pedophiles and sex traffickers have become commonplace in the news- including many public figures, leaders and clergy- and the depth of their evil and appalling actions is still coming to light
  • the west coast is literally burning up
  • Australia was devastated by wildfires
  • massive deadly explosion in Lebanon
  • devastating floods in Indonesia
  • locust swarms in Africa
  • earthquakes all over the globe
  • stories of children being murdered and tortured everywhere
  • satanists and witches putting hexes on our president
  • people all over the nation including presidential candidates and those currently in office blatantly disrespecting our president and our country
  • murder hornets, enough said

There have been so many events that there are too many to list. It is hard to believe that life is so very different compared to a year ago, that it has fallen apart so fast. We are living in a time when people are discouraged, angry, losing hope. As believers we are uniquely positioned to share the truth. Are we doing it? This is why we are here, in this place, at this point in time. It is not a coincidence. Each one of us places a role within our own circle of influence.

Some of you reading don’t know the Lord at all. You may be one of the ones feeling hopeless and scared. I can understand why you feel this way, but know that is is also not a mistake that you are here either. God is literally jumping up and down shouting at the top of his lungs trying to get your attention, giving you just a taste of what is to come. He wants you to finally realize he is real, that he loves us and doesn’t want anyone to be lost. It will get so, so, so much worse than this. But we all have a choice.

Whether we chose to trust in the God that created us or not, we are all living these last days together. There were doubters right up until the time the doors of the ark closed and the rain started. There will continue to be doubters until the day of the Lord’s return. But one day every knee WILL bow and every tongue confess, JESUS IS LORD.

So let’s not just keep waking up every morning assuming life will eventually get back to normal. It won’t. We are here for a reason and time is running out. Decisions need to be made that have eternal implications. Have you done what you were called to do? Are you ready to face your maker with confidence you have completed your mission? No? What are you waiting for? What am I waiting for? Now is the time. Graduation from planet Earth as we know it is coming soon. Catch a glimpse of the gathering of “honor graduates” who will be invited for an awards ceremony like none we have ever experienced!
